We planned to start the Champions League with a victory but, just like CSKA, we lost our first match. Training and effort does not always result in victory but there is a rule in football – the harder you train the faster you get a positive result. Maccabi maintained their perfect start to the Israeli Premier League season at the weekend with a 3-1 defeat of Hapoel Ramat Gan.
Seventeen-year-old midfielder Eyal Golasa grabbed one of the goals to go with his double in Champions League qualifying.
"We had to fight hard to beat Ramat Gan, but all that matters is that we won," Golasa told the Jerusalem Post.
"I don't fear Bayern, this is only soccer. We will be meeting European giants in the group stage, but we know that in soccer everything is possible."

Juventus made a great start to their season, winning their opening four Serie A matches at a canter, conceding just one goal in the process. However, they have dipped slightly in recent weeks, dropping points in their last two league matches. Bayern are 6/5 (Ladbrokes) to record a victory over the Turin side, although they have not been in brilliant form themselves, and a loss on Sunday at table-topping Hamburg saw Louis Van Gaal’s expensively assembled side drop to seventh place in the Bundesliga.

The Dutchman spent a lot of money in the summer, and also managed to hang on to star player, Franck Ribery, in a bid to regain Bayern’s place as the premier side in the German championship, and also to improve the club’s fortunes in the Champions League. The squad now boasts an array of attacking talent, and the team are capable of playing good football and scoring goals, however, perhaps unusually for a Bayern Munich side, Van Gaal’s team are somewhat weak defensively.

Juventus’ strikers, veteran Italian Alessandro Del Piero (8/1, Ladbrokes) and the in-form Vicenzo Iaquinta (8/1, Ladbrokes) will look to capitalise on this weakness, although since his side are away from home, manager Ciro Ferrara may adopt a more defensive approach in an effort to contain Bayern’s attacking threat.
